The Minister of State for the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Chief Chuka Odom, said has said that sustenance of culture and tradition would provide opportunity for Nigerians to create wealth.
According to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), Odom was represented by Mrs Habiba Kalgo, Secretary, FCT Social Development Secretariat in Abuja at the opening plenary of the 4th FCT Festival and Culture (ASOFEST), with the theme ‘promoting indigenous culture for wealth creation’ on Thursday.
He noted that ASOFEST was inaugurated in 1993 to develop indigenous culture and tradition of Nigerians and regretted that ASOFEST had remained dormant until it was revived by the Social Development Secretariat(SDS) of the FCT Administration in 2007.
He said that the choice of this year theme represented the “desires of FCT towards promoting and sustaining our cultural heritage and job opportunities for Nigerian Youths”.
“We all know that the FCT has rich culture, it therefore, becomes pertinent that we have a veritable platform to showcase, promote and sustain it,” he added.
Odom expressed the readiness of the FCT administration to provide the necessary support to make the festival an annual event, calling for its sustenance through private partnership.
“We shall be happy to partner with the private sector and any interested group toward the sustenance and improvement of the festival,” he said.
