Nigeria’s injury worries ahead of the World Cup are easing with Chelsea midfielder Mikel John Obi set to join the squad Thursday night, while Nice defender Onyekachi Apam trained fully after he has been working out on his own as a result of a knee problem.
Spokesman for the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), Ademola Olajire, said Mikel will complete his rehabilitation exercises in London after a recent knee surgery and therafter team up with the squad in Essex.
Mikel was injured in an English Premier League game in April and has not played since then.
Apam, on the other hand, trained with the rest of the team for the first time Wednesday evening as coach Lars Lagerback took another look at his squad following Tuesday night’s disappointing 0-0 draw with Saudi Arabia.
Tough-tackling Apam can fit into either right back or centre of defence and was a member of the team who won silver medal at the 2005 FIFA Under-20 World Cup as well as the team who reached the final of the football event of the Beijing Olympics, two years ago.
Meanwhile, the NFF and their Colombian counterparts have both agreed to report the match agent, Pro-Global Sports, to world football governing body FIFA for behaving irresponsibly.
