Nigerians Damola Osayomi settled for Silver in the women’s 100m and Helen Okus gets Bronze in Wrestling at the 19th Commonwealth Games in Delhi, India today.
Sally Pearson of Australia overcame the shock of believing she had been disqualified for a false start in a confusing start to the Athletics Women’s 100 metres to claim an astonishing Gold in 11.28 seconds at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium on Thursday.
Osayemi OLUDAMOLA (NGR) took the Silver in 11.32sec and Natasha MAYERS (SVG) claimed the Bronze in 11.37.
There was confusion at the start with PEARSON and Laura TURNER (ENG) initially appearing to have been disqualified for a false start but, after discussion between officials, both women got down in their blocks for the race and PEARSON overcame a slow start to surge to victory.

On winning the Bronze medal, Helen Okus said:
“I’m joyful and glad. I fought really, really hard for this medal. God is with me. I gained a lot of experience from this.”
“This medal is very important for me, as it is very special representing your country, fighting champions from all over the world. Getting a medal at this event is a memorable achievement for me.”
On her coach cheering for her during the bout, she added:
“My coach trained me very well and he is very happy now. And hearing him cheering for me really was a booster.”
