Lagos, Ghana and Gambia are the camp locations for the screening of entries for the 2011 edition of African Movie Academy Award (AMAA).
The organizers of the award revealed that Lagos and Gambia camps which opened since January 6, will handle pre-selection of entries that have been received while Ghana will host the College of Screeners, which is the last leg of the screening process before the Academy’s jurors meet to decide nominees and eventual winners of the various categories.
The college of Screeners headed by Film Critic and Journalists, Mr. Shuaib Hussein will be in the West Africa nations in Ghana with others members from Cameroun, Zimbabwe, Nigeria and other Africa countries as part of the moves to make other countries have a feel of what goes into the AMAA screening process.
A total number of 220 films were received as entries for the 2011 edition according to a statement from the AMAA Director of Administration, Tony Anih. Of this number, 120 are feature films. Anih stated that the AMAA secretariat received a total number of 10 animations, 30 documentaries and 60 short films.
He described the entries as an improvement from last year as most of the film makers observed the entry rules, revealing also that the secretariat received entries from over 24 countries including Senegal, Sudan, Tanzania, Chad, Mozambique and Congo all of whom are new comers to the fold.
‘What this then means is that AMAA is spreading with its philosophy. Nomination show and concert scheduled to hold in Nairobi, Kenya in February 25th and 26th will precede the award proper, which will hold in March in Nigeria.
