The Action Congress of Nigeria(ACN)
Senatorial candidate for Abia North, Jerry Eze, has decried the
non-development of the area over the years. He said that in spite of
the fact that the area was strategic to the development of the state it
has not witnessed commensurate development.
Mr Eze told the News Agency
of Nigeria (NAN) in Ohafia, Abia, that it is regrettable that the area
that produced notable politicians has not seen any meaningful
civilisation since the end of the civil war. He said the zone should be
declared a disaster area due to infrastructural decay and ecological
degradation and held that more than 90 per cent of erosion sites in
Abia are located in the zone.
‘‘This has left thousands of people in
the area homeless and we seem to be doing nothing about it. Our people
have been left to their fate and it is disheartening that those that
claim to be representing them refuse to contribute anything to
alleviate their sufferings. How can one explain the fact that the zone
has not had electricity and pipe borne water for over five years?” he
said.
The aspirant also lamented the bad state of the road from Abia to
Akwa Ibom that passes through Ohafia Local Government Area and the
Umunze to Isuochi road in Umunneochi, he called the roads death traps
as many lives had been lost there.Mr Eze, a cleric and the General
Overseer of Christ Mandate International Church, said the situation was
pitiable.
