Jimmy Odukoya aka Pastor J is the son
of Pastor Taiwo and Late Pastor Mrs. Bimbo Odukoya. Toeing the rap
lane, Pastor J classifies his music style as ‘Jesus Musik’.
The History
Pastor J’s love for music began from
his childhood days. Growing up, he participated in theater arts and
musicals all through school. Right after his secondary school
education, he was employed as an assistant music coordinator in his
parents’ church, Fountain of life. Later on, he proceeded to Oral
Roberts University where he earned two degrees- Bachelors of Science in
Business Administration and an MBA in Business Administration. At
college, Pastor J founded an image consulting company called MO
Consulting which he manages alongside his music career.
The Inspiration
Though his biggest inspiration are his
parents, Pastor J also gets inspired from foremost music acts like Kirk
Franklins,Lecrae, T-Bone, Boys II Men and Winans Phase II. “The
messages in their songs and poetic lyrical abilities are on point. I
love their harmonies and their creative talents,” he says about these
artistes.
The music
Pastor J’s first single ‘Show Ya Self’
off his debut album titled “My Life”, has very good beats that could
pass for a dancehall hit. Laced with clean rap lines, ‘Show Ya Self’
could raise the bar for gospel music.
