Twelve participants (six males and six females) that excelled in the just concluded Quranic recitation competition in Bauchi have each been offered a seat by the state government to this year’s pilgrimage (Hajj) to Saudi Arabia.
The Bauchi Quranic recitation competition was contested among youth from the age of 25 years and below in which 16 out of the 20 local governments in the state participated.
Governor Isa Yuguda who announced this further disclosed that the six judges that evaluated the participants during the competition have also been offered seats to the lesser Hajj (Umrah) by the government to be performed in the next three weeks.
Mr Yuguda explained that the government’s gesture came out of its desire to encourage and promote the teaching of religious education in the society, and assured of his administration’s continued moral and financial support to the programme.
The 25th Qur’anic recitation competition in the state also witnessed the emergence of male and female first positions in combined Qur’an and Tafsir bagged by Abdulsalam Mohammed from Alkaleri, and Layuza Idris Salihu from Bauchi local governments.
The Qur’anic recitation competition committee Chairman, Salisu Shehu commended the state government for its effort in promoting education especially the sponsorship of the competition for which the sum of N18 million was earmarked.
Other contestants who excelled in the competition include: Abbas Salisu Zakariyya from Bauchi local government who took first position in the memorisation category, while Abdulaziz Adamu from Dass and Hashimu Abdullahi from Gamawa came second and third respectively.
