Osayande Paul Ero is an Edo state born
RB singer, now going by the moniker Saint Paul, he featured at the
first ever Rhythm Unplugged held in Benin last year.
The History
Saint Paul’s love for music began at
age 6; he would render special songs during church programmes and soon
became a member of his church choir. During his secondary school days,
music made him popular among his peers. “I was not just an ordinary
student; I led my school choir, thrilling parents and invited guests to
sonorous rendition of Christmas Carols during carol nights and at
weekly and Sunday services,” he said. Over the years, the Sociology
undergraduate at the University of Benin, limits his singing to church
programmes to allow him concentrate more on his studies.
However, in 2010, during the Academic
Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) strike, Saint Paul decided to take
his singing out of the church. “Music became a reality sooner than I
expected. The last ASUU strike lured me into taking the giant step as I
could no longer afford being idle at home while the strike lasted. I
used the opportunity to produce a single and also started worked on my
album,”
He revealed that he gets inspired
depending on his mood and also from his past experiences, his musical
influences are multiple awards winners Tuface and R-Kelly.
The Music
Signed to Cross Roads Records, Saint
Paul now has a new feel good single, ‘What I Know Now’, laced over
dance beats. The track which does not enjoy very impressive vocal
delivery, tells the story of Saint Paul’s wish to turn back the hands
of time.
