It was an action packed weekend in the PSL which saw the six matches taking place averaging three goals per game.
Kicking off the goal feast on Friday night was as seven goal thriller between Ajax Cape Town and Santos (the first Absa Premiership game with seven goals this season). This was certainly one local derby that did not disappoint. It was all action from the first whistle as the match moved from end to end.
The conclusion of the match saw the Urban Warriors run out 4-3 victors thanks to a 25-yard wonder goal from Thulani Serero three minutes from time. The winning goal coming only two days after the striker made his Bafana Bafana debut in a match against Kenya.
Saturday saw six teams going into battle on the football field. The early game saw certain trends continue as Bloemfontein Celtic beat Golden Arrows 1-0 in Chatsworth.
The win for Celtic sees them continue a ten game unbeaten streak, but it is only their first win in six games. For Arrows they suffered their fourth consecutive loss and are quickly slipping down the table, presently in seventh place.
At the bottom of the table, Moroka Swallows moved six points clear of MP Black Aces after they beat Maritzburg United 1-0. The win sees the Dube Birds move to within four points of United, but with a game in hand.
At the opposite end of the table Orlando Pirates maintained their lead atop the league table and continued their winning streak, extending their unbeaten run to 12 with a 2-1 win over Mamelodi Sundowns. For Downs the loss sees them slip fourth on the league table after going into the match in second position.
Sunday was another goal crammed day as six goals were scored in two games. Five of those goals, though, came in the Kaizer Chiefs verse Platinum Stars match.
It was a five goal thriller in Rustenburg as Kaizer Chiefs had to twice come from behind to claim all three points. It was a 3-2 match of the highest quality with two players grabbing a brace. Former Amakhosi man, Thusa Phala, scored a double for Stars but still ended on the losing side after a brace from Kaizer Motaung Jnr handed the Phefeni Glamour Boys victory.
The other Sunday game saw MP Black Aces woes continue as they slumped to their 16th loss of the season and remain firmly rooted to the bottom of the table. For Vasco da Gama, though, the 1-0 win saw them end a three game losing run and only one point outside of the top eight.
