It’s about Michael Jackson this Sunday on Nigerian Idol!

The show producers say that as a means of paying tribute to the late king of pop,

the contestants
will on Sunday perform select songs from Michael Jackson’s rich
collection. Since the show entered its final leg, the contestants have
followed different themes for their performances. From disco to movie
soundtrack to Abba, and now Michael Jackson, the producers revealed
that this is not the end as plans are in motion for a full week
dedicated to African music! “It’s been such a privilege being a judge
on the show, and I really look forward to seeing the contestants
perform Michael Jackson’s songs this weekend, I really can’t wait”
Jeffery Daniel who was a mentor and choreographer to Michael said.
Obviously the highlight of the evening will be when Jeffery mounts the
stage to do the world- famous moon walk! In a short frame of three
weeks, six contestants with the lowest public votes have been
eliminated from the contest and as the show gets hotter, the reality is
beginning to dawn on contestants that if they don’t sit up, eviction is
inevitable.

The competition
began this year with ten thousand contestants slugging it out for a
grand prize of ?7.5m, a car and a record deal with Sony BMG.

Tupac Shakur film back on track after legal battle

For two years, it seemed the biopic of slain rapper, Tupac Shakur, a.k.a. TuPac, had met a similarly untimely death.

The project was
long in development at production outfit, Morgan Creek, which thought
it had struck a deal with Afeni Shakur-Davis, Shakur’s mother. Her
Amaru Entertainment label was demanding broad creative approval before
handing over the necessary life and music rights.

But in February
2009, Morgan Creek abruptly sued Amaru, claiming Shakur-Davis had
closed a deal but “instead attempted to use the contract as a floor to
pursue further negotiations.” Amaru quickly hired Hollywood litigator,
Skip Miller and countersued, arguing that there was no legally binding
agreement and that Morgan Creek and its CEO, James Robinson, were
interfering with Shakur-Davis’ negotiations with other studios,
including Fox and Paramount. The project then entered litigation
purgatory: depositions were taken, lengthy motions were filed, and
hundreds of thousands of dollars were spent preparing for a scheduled
February 15 trial to determine whether Morgan Creek had the right to
make the movie.

Behind the scenes,
lawyers for both sides were trying to convince Shakur-Davis — known as
being especially protective of her son’s legacy — that a settlement
would benefit both sides. Morgan Creek, after all,was one of the few
companies willing to make a deal, given her required creative input.

On the eve of the
trial, cooler heads prevailed. Sources say Shakur-Davis sat down with
director Antoine Fuqua (‘Training Day’) and agreed with his vision of
the film. A deal was soon negotiated that allows Morgan Creek to make
the movie, with Shakur-Davis receiving an undisclosed flat fee, a chunk
of any profits and an executive producer credit. The studio said
February 10 that the task of casting Shakur would begin immediately,
with a shoot planned for late spring and Universal handling the film’s
release. “This is certainly a better result for everyone involved,”
Miller says.

Bruno Mars Gets Probation in Vegas Cocaine Case

Grammy’s award-winning pop star Bruno Mars has pleaded guilty to
cocaine possession as part of a deal with Las Vegas prosecutors that
could allow the felony conviction to be erased next year. A Clark
County district judge sentenced the 25-year-old singer-songwriter
Wednesday to probation, a $2,000 fine, 200 hours of community service
and drug counselling. Mars, real name Peter Hernandez, declined comment
after the court hearing. So did his lawyers. His conviction could be
erased if he stays out of trouble for a year. The judge set a January
18 date next year for Mars to return at the end of his probation. The
singer had 2.6 grams of cocaine when he was arrested in September in a
casino bathroom after a nightclub performance. After breaking out with
featured vocal turns on B.O.B’s ‘Nothin on You’ and Travie McCoy’s
‘Billionaire’ earlier this year, Mars is slated to release his debut
album, ‘Doo-Wops Hooligans’, on October 5 via Elektra Records.
