Rock-bottom club JUTH FC sent massive shock waves across the Nigeria Premier League Monday with a 2-1 home win over defending champions Enyimba.
This was De Healers first win of the year and only their second victory in 16 matches since their return to the top flight this season.
It was also a result that lifted them from the basement of the table as they have now leap frogged city rivals Plateau United with 12 points.
Enyimba are now eighth in the standings with 25 points from 16 matches.
This is a big morale booster for the team. We led 2-0 by half time and to eventually beat a top team like Enyimba can only boost our confidence, JUTH FC spokesman, Olushola Alao, told MTNFootball.com.
It was a winning start for coach Dairo Adeyemi, who was elevated from coaching the youth team to replace sacked Tunde Abdulrahman after last weeks 4-1 crash at Ocean Boys.
Williams Adams gave the home team the perfect start after 18 minutes, before Uche Martin doubled their lead two minutes to the break.
Enyimba would pull a goal back on 73 minutes through a questionable penalty that was converted by Ifeanyi Edeh as JUTH held on for a famous victory.
This weekends derby between Plateau and JUTH will therefore take even more significance as a result for either side would further boost their hopes of beating the dreaded drop.
