Nigerian Idol evictees get record deal

SauceKid still with Storm Records

Obi Asika, Chief
Executive Officer of Storm 360, the parent company of Storm Records
have dispelled the rumour that acclaimed rapper SauceKid has quitted
the label. In a phone interview with Mr. Asika, the Storm Records’ boss
affirms that the ‘Edondeymadt’ rapper, who released his debut album
under the imprint last year, is still a contract holding artist of
Storm Records. “Saucekid is still under contract with Storm Records so
I find it funny that people think he can just walk away like that,”
Asika said. However, he confirms that the rapper is currently
disgruntled and has made known his want-away wish. Although the rapper
couldn’t be reached for comments, reports from the popular
entertainment company 411 Entertainments suggest that the rapper has
founded a personal record imprint, SM Entertainments, where he
hopes to release his forth coming ‘DaRipOff’ mixtape.

Nigerian Idol evictees get record deal

Two already evicted
contestants from the ongoing Nigerian Idol have bagged record deals
while their colleagues are still battling to win the coveted Nigerian
Idol prize. According to reports from the Nigerian Idol’s Public
Relations company, Black House Media, Ajumoke Nwaeze popularly known as
AJ and Toni Afolayan known as Tonii, are both currently in talks with
Lynxx’s Syndic8 Records and Audu Maikori’s Chocolate City respectively.

Both singers have
prior musical experiences before enlisting for the Nigerian Idol
competition. While AJ was a member of 2008 Star Quest winning band,
Diamonds, Tonii released her debut single ‘Silateya’ in 2008.

Etcetera parts way with X3M Music

Hip-Hop World
Award’s Recording of The Year winning crooner, Etcetera, has parted
ways with X3M Music, the record imprint which released his debut and
sophomore albums. According to the singer who just released his
sophomore album, ‘Yes I Am’, under the imprint last month, his contract
with the Steve Babaeko owned record label is over and he will not be
renewing it.

“My contract with
X3M Music has expired so I have to move on. I have nothing against
them; we parted ways and have a mutual understanding. We have worked
together on my two albums ‘Etcetera’ and ‘Yes I Am’ so I guess it is
time to explore other things,” the Imo State born singer who joined the
label in June 2007 said.

Music executive slams Grammys

A veteran music
executive has lambasted the Grammy Awards as “a series of hypocrisies
and contradictions,” in a full-page New York Times advertisement that
ran a week after last Sunday’s annual ceremony.

Steve Stoute’s open
letter to Grammy’s organisers ripped the organisation and its
12,000-odd voters for snubbing Eminem and Justin Bieber at this year’s
ceremony, as well as Eminem and Kanye West at past events. “Over the
course of my 20-year history as an executive in the music business and
as the owner of a firm that specialises in in-culture advertising, I
have come to the conclusion that the Grammy Awards have clearly lost
touch with contemporary popular culture,” wrote Stoute, who is
currently CEO of the marketing company Translation.

“Unfortunately, the
awards show has become a series of hypocrisies and contradictions,
leaving me to question why any contemporary popular artist would even
participate.” Eminem, this year’s leading contender, lost in most of
the major categories for which he was nominated. Two-time nominee
Bieber went home empty-handed and disappointed. Both West and Eminem
have lost the coveted album of the year race multiple times.
