The police have
arraigned a 19-year-old girl, Jennifer Alumona, and three other male
suspects before an Abuja High Court on a five-count charge of
conspiracy, assault and armed robbery.
Charged with
Alumona, on Tuesday, for being in possession of a locally-made double
barrel pistol with two live cartridges, conspiracy and robbery are
Idris Olayemi, 25; Abdullahi Ibrahim, 25 and Yusuf Mohammed, 28.
They were also
charged for causing voluntary hurt and abetting contrary to Sections
5a, 5b, 1, and 3 of the Robbery and Firearms (Special Provisions) Act,
LFN 1990 of the Penal Code.
The Prosecution
Counsel, Mr Daniel Oguadinma, told the court that Ms. Alumona, on April
28, 2010 led the other suspects to the home of her boyfriend, one Chief
Chijioke Ogbeta, and robbed him of his Toyota Corolla car and N600,000.
When the charge was read to the suspects before Justice Hussein Baba,
they all pleaded not guilty.
The Defence
Counsel, Mr Nkereuwem Akpan, applied for bail on behalf of his clients,
citing section 341 (3) of the 1999 Constitution to support his
application. In his ruling on the bail application, Mr.Baba said that
the case was a capital offence and “once it is a capital offence, the
hurry for the release of offenders will not apply”.
He ordered that the
three male suspects be remanded in Kuje Prison in the FCT, while Ms.
Alumona should be remanded in the Suleja Prison in Niger. The judge
adjourned the matter to April 19, for further hearing.
