Kwesi Nyantakyi wants to help to give a new image to the Confederation of African Football (CAF) after he was elected to serve on the Executive Committee of the continental governing body.
The Ghana FA president defeated Anjorin Moucharafou of Benin in Khartoum on Wednesday to win a the West Africa B slot on the body.
Other new faces likes former Zambia international Kalusha Bwalya and Leo Tenga of Tanzania all won places on the Executive Committee of CAF during Wednesday elections.
Some African football observers have lambasted the way CAF is run under president Issa Hayatou, accusing the continental body of not being professionally run.
Nyantakyi masterminded Ghana’s first World Cup appearance in 2006 and a quarterfinal appearance four years later in South Africa.
He believes his experience of steering the Ghana national teams will aid CAF to develop the game on the continent.
I also think that my election provides another dimension to football management in Africa,” Nyantakyi said.
“At least myself, Kalusha (Bwalya) and Tenga (Tanzania FA boss) have been elected and I believe the experiences that we have gained over the years, the successes and all the expertise in us will be brought to bear on African football.
“We expect to help president Hayatou to drive further the gender of development for African football.
The newly elected CAF Executive Committee members will serve a four-year term.
