As the people of
Ekiti State prepares to host the campaign train of President Goodluck
Jonathan on March 2, the state police command said security operatives
are prepared to ensure a hitch-free campaign during the visit.
The state
Commissioner of Police, Olayinka Balogun, said the Inspector General of
Police, Ringim Hafiz, has promised to deploy more policemen, anti-bomb
and intelligence officers to the state to ensure adequate security when
the president flags off his campaign in the state.
He told a meeting
attended by leaders of political parties; representatives of security
operatives; officers of the Federal Road Safety Corps and the
Independent National Electoral Commission and journalists that it was
vital to maintain law and order before, during and after the visit. He
added that the police will not allow what happened in Rivers State
where some people lost their lives in a stampede to happen in Ekiti
State.
The commissioner
said that Christ Secondary School Ado-Ekiti will be the venue for the
presidential campaign because the place is big enough to accommodate
enough people.
Leaders of
political parties who spoke at the ceremony also stressed the need for
the police to ensure adequate security during the forthcoming elections.
They implored the INEC to create a level-playing ground for all political parties to ensure credible elections.
