The
Players
D’Grind is an Ireland based Nigerian band.
Founded in 2006, the band consists of 3 young Nigerian artists, Mitchell Okeke
also known as Big Mitch, Razak Sadu aka Raz D’chef, and Jordan Colgan who goes
by the moniker Alexi Duce. D’Grind revealed their style of music cuts across
Nigerian flavored Hip-Hop and other Afrocentric sounds.
The History
D’Grind was founded by Big Mitch, a
Pharmaceutical Science graduate from GMIT, Ireland. He started out as a radio
show presenter on Flirt FM, a Galway radio station.
Driven by a passion for music, Raz D’chef and
Alexi Duce joined Big Mitch and D’Grind was formed. Raz D’chef, a Music
Technology undergraduate, started out as a producer and eventually turned to
rapping and Alexi Duce, currently a Sound Engineering student, started out his
career doing freestyle battles in his neighborhood. The trio has performed in
Ireland, London, Nigeria and New York.
The Inspiration
While Big Mitch is influenced by Jay-Z, Rick
Ross, Snoop Dogg, and Nigerian producer, Don Jazzy, Raz D’chef is influenced by
Ludacris, Dagrin, Lil Wayne and Juelz Santana. Alexi’s influences are So Solid
crew, Ghetto, Tinie Tempah, Jim Jones and Dagrin.
The Music
Their single, ‘Just Pull’ is a dance track.
Although the track boasts of good beats, the lyrics however falls a little
short safe for Big Mitch’s verse which is delivered in a blend of English, Igbo
and pidgin. While it is glaring they all have special individual musical
talents, coming together as a group is however a big miss as they appear not to
be in sync.
