Jigawa State
governor, Sule Lamido said yesterday in Dutse, the state capital, that
lack of trust between government and the electorate is the key
challenge in leadership in the country. Mr Lamido made this statement
while flagging-off his re-election campaign.

He said his
resolve to seek re-election was informed by calls by various segments
of the society including traditional rulers, the clergy and others. He
said that if given the mandate, he will continue to provide a
leadership which will be credible, accountable, and transparent in
meeting the yearnings and aspirations of the people.

“In all our
campaigns, we will be soliciting people to restore trust in leadership,
since once there is trust, then there will be an understanding of
people’s need and there will be commitment before the people,” he said.

Mr Lamido, who
earlier described his victory at the last election as people’s
collective victory, said it represents the ultimate yearnings and
aspirations of Jigawa indigenes.

He also assured
that if re-elected, his main target will be restoration of trust and
public confidence in governance for enhancement of the socio- economic
status of the people.

The zonal People’s
Democratic Party (PDP) chairman, Ahmed Sale Danzomo said the party is
sure of recording a landslide victory at the polls based on the party’s
noble achievements in areas of education, rural transformation and
economic empowerment of the youth, among others.

Peaceful election

Other speakers,
including the first civilian governor of the state, Ali Saad
Birnin-kudu and the state PDP Chairman, Isa Ahmad (Duniya Ba Hutu)
attaches importance to peaceful politicking. They also called on party
members to work for the success of the party during the general
elections.

The event was
attended by PDP leaders, 46 aspirants of the PDP in the state and
supporters from all the 27 local councils of the state.
