Elder statesman Ali Monguno has advocated for a national conference to give Nigerians the opportunity to discuss and proffer solutions to some of the major problems bedevilling the country from independence in 1960 to date.
The 85-year-old elder statesman and first republic Minister of State for Defence (Airforce) made the suggestion while fielding questions at a News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) Political Forum for elder statesmen drawn from the six geo-political zones of the country.
Mr Monguno, who spoke from his residence in Maiduguri, said that such a conference is necessary in order to give Nigerians the opportunity to freely express their emotions as to how best to move the country forward.
He said that the conference will provide a platform to address the Niger Delta problem, incessant religious crises in Jos and other parts of the country, corruption as well as the issue of rotational presidency, among others.
