A leader of the
Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Ogun State, Segun Alawode, yesterday
advised the embattled governor, Gbenga Daniel, and his faction of the
party, to close ranks with the party’s governorship candidate, Tunji
Olurin, in the interest of their (Daniel’s group) political future.

Mr. Alawode, a
former candidate for the House of Representatives, who later withdrew
for the Speaker, House of Representatives, Dimeji Bankole to re-contest
from Abeokuta south constituuency, made the statement while speaking
with NEXT in Abeokuta.

On the Federal
Court judgement which affirmed Mr. Olurin as the state governorship
candidate of the party, Mr. Alawode said it was a welcome development,
which must be embraced and accepted by all concerned, adding that the
proposed move by Mr. Daniel faction to appeal will not be successful.

“Daniel should call
his group to order to work with Olurin. We should not do anything that
wil tarnish the image of our party; we should come together. The
governor should close rank with Olurin who is the authentic party
flagbearer,” Mr. Alawode emphasised.

Speaking further,
the PDP leader noted that the number of sycophants within the system
has contributed immensely to the present political doom of the
governor, stressing that he had been misled, but by now must have
realised his error.

On the court
judgement, Mr. Alawode said it has once again shown that the judiciary
is the final arbiter on all controversial issues, and has equally
confirmed its competence in the ruling, which could not be questioned.
