The People’s Democratic Party in Osun State has
accused leaders of the Action Congress Of Nigeria (ACN) of planning to
contribute money to influence the outcome of a probe set up by the
National Judicial Council to investigate the chief justice of the
federation, Alphosus Katsina-Alu and the president of the Court of
Appeal, Ayo Isa-Salami. The party, in a statement signed by its
director of publicity in the state, Adeolu Adeyemo, said that informed
sources hinted that two different meetings had been held in Lagos by
ACN members to see that the probe did not see the light of the day.
But the director of research and strategy of the
ACN, Sunday Akere, in a reaction, dismised the allegation, describing
it as a figment of the imagination of the opposition party in the
state. According to Mr. Akere, the ACN did not believe in buying
justice. He claimed that the party had always believed in the rule of
law. Mr. Adeyemo appealed to members of the panel to be vigilant and
careful and charged them to maintain their integrity throughout the
probe. He also said that his sources from the purported ACN meeting
said that the party had mapped out strategies to use media
organisations to frustrate the panel from carrying out its assignment.
