The player
A native of Ibuza, Delta State, Agbambu Prince
Uchechukwu was raised in Lagos by his father who used to manage dance music
singer, Daddy Fresh. That birthed the musical interest in the younger Uchecukwu
who now plies as Young Pizzy.
The history
At age seven, Pizzy appeared in a music video by
Daddy Fresh and ever since dreamed of being an entertainer himself. He started
writing songs after his cameo in the music video, and at age 12, he enrolled in
a Boys Brigade and acquainted himself with the snare drum.
He also had some spell at the choir of St. Mary’s
Catholic Church in Ajegunle and at age 15 he teamed up with Rayan T of ‘Nothing
Dey Pa’ fame and a couple of other friends to form the group Raymass Family.
Young Pizzy took musical cues from a variety of artists including Warren G, Fela
Kuti, Buju Banton, Kris Kross, Aaliyah, Junior Pretty, Daddy Fresh and a
host of others,” Pizzy said.
The music
Now signed to a budding record imprint, Quadruple
Threat, he released his debut single, ‘Apology’ featuring Zara on Wednesday,
March 16,2011.
‘Apology’ centres on the topic of forgiveness in
a relationship between a man and woman which necessitated the need to have Zara
the flyest on the record,” the rapper explains the reason behind the
collaboration.
‘Apology’
is a dance oriented Hip-Hop track with little elements of Fuji on the hook
Pizzy delivers in Yoruba. His fast rapping style is also complimented by Zara
as she upped her delivery speed as well. The track however sounds like one yet
to be mastered thus the recurring presence of echoes.
