28 bag first class degrees in Bayero University

Twenty-eight graduates are to be awarded with
First Class Degree in various disciplines by the Bayero University Kano
at its 29th Convocation Ceremony scheduled for Friday.

The University is also to confer honorary
doctorate degrees on three Nigerians: The governor of the Central Bank
of Nigeria (CBN), Sanusi Lamido Sanusi; a one-time Defence Minister,
Theophilus Yakubu Danjuma and a US-based entrepreneur, Case Lukman
Lawal.

A total number of 9,924 students are to be
graduated by the university, products of the 2008/2009 and 2009/2010
academic sessions.

Joint convocation

The university’s Dean, School of Post Graduate
Studies, Abubakar Adamu Rasheed told reporters in Kano over the weekend
during a pre-convocation press conference, that a total number of 4,934
students are to be graduated from the 2008/2009 academic session, while
4,990 students are to graduate from the 2009/2010 session.

A breakdown of the number of graduating students
shows that for 2008, 1168 are to be awarded ordinary diploma while 229
will be awarded with Advanced Diploma.

In the 2009/2010, a total of 2677 candidates will
be awarded with First Degree, 1851 with Ordinary Diploma and 697 with
Advanced Diploma.

Commenting on the three eminent Nigerians to be
conferred with honorary awards, Mr. Rasheed explained that the award
was to honour them for their outstanding contributions to national
development.

He also disclosed that the convocation lecture, entitled “Challenges
and Prospects of Credible Elections in Nigeria”, is to be delivered by
the INEC National Chairman, Attahiru Muhammadu Jega.
