The Nigeria Railway
Corporation (NRC) has expressed worry over the activities of land
speculators who are encroaching on its property.
“The corporation is
also worried that the Enugu State Government and agencies collude to
encroach on NRC property,” the NRC District Manager, East, Paul Ndibe,
said.
Mr Ndibe told the
News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Enugu on Thursday that the encroachment
appeared more pronounced in the South East.
“The reasons are
not far-fetched because most of the government agencies are indifferent
to properties not owned by them,” he said.
He accused
officials of the state government of being ignorant to provisions of
the law which poses a duty on them to safeguard all Federal Government
property within their territory.
According to him, some of the contracts awarded by the Enugu State Government did not take cognizance of rail tracks.
