Governor Bukola
Saraki of Kwara State has advised labour unions to desist from issuing
threats to state governments over the new minimum wage.

Mr.Saraki said this
in Ilorin on Saturday that such threats were unnecessary as the
President had yet to sign the bill into law. However, he said that
every state would pay the new minimum wage as soon as the bill is
signed. He gave the assurance that the Kwara government would pay the
new minimum wage of N18,

000 to its work force. He noted that some states face a lot of
challenges and as such may not be able to pay. Mr. Saraki said that the
governors are examining ways to make the minimum wage bill effective
when finally signed into law by the president. “My own view is that in
passing the law, we should look at the issue of revenue allocation
review, so that we don’t give room for excuses”.
