XAMINATION: Wizboyy

Infinity No-Tyme Records 2011

Released in March 2011, Infinity is the
latest offering from the highlife singer, Wizboyy. Popular for the
track ‘Screen Saver’, the album receives production credits from
Emceee, Dj Ree and features several new act alongside 9ice.

For the love of dance

The 15 tracker opens with ‘Something
About Me’ which he dedicates to himself. On the track, he sings over a
low tempos beat about how his talent cannot be hidden. Next is ‘One
plus one’, a love song delivered in Pidgin English and a few lines in
Igbo language. Towing the same line as the previous, ‘One plus one’ is
a dance track. ‘My Container’, another dance track, reference to the
containers used in transporting goods via the sea into the country, he
likened them to God sending to him containers of blessings. “I wan go
carry my container na baba God send am. If anybody try make e seize am
na holy ghost fire brigade,” he sings.

Next is a remix of ‘Fotojenik’ which
bizarrely came before the original. The track tells the story of a lady
whose beauty has turned his mind. Aside his usual delivery in pidgin
and Igbo language, he added a little of Yoruba to his lines.

The album’s title track is also dance
provoking; on this track, he featured his label mate Slim Brown and
sings about having an unending fun. “I no go hustle till infinity eh
but I go bubble till infinity eh with my latest infinity” he sings.

He rendered ‘Kabeleka’ and ‘Be your
Romeo’ over high paced beats. His 2010 single ‘Owu Sa Gi’ remix, which
features 9ice came up next. The next track ‘Ur Zombie’, where he said
he’d willingly do anything for love, features singing upstart, Lace.

‘Kiribe’, one of his bests on the
album, re-enlists label mates Slim Brown alongside Dj Zee, Zoro, and
D’Jess. The track boasts of a smooth transition from one singer to the
other as they sang over high pace beats combining flows in English and
Igbo language.

The next ‘I go dey’, is the albums
first slow track and was delivered over low soothing beats. ‘I go dey’
tells his love story and his preference of a particular lady over the
list of other ladies in his life while ‘Ike’, laced with catchy beats,
acknowledges God as his strength against his haters.

The album finally wraps with ‘Dide’
featuring label mate Dj Ree. He charges to people stand up and be an
inspiration to themselves on a low pace beat.

The Music On the album, the singer
addressed issues ranging from love, strength, heartbreak, struggles,
and even beauty giving the album a variety. A major down on the album
however is his decision to deliver most of the tracks over the same
type of high tempo beats which makes it difficult telling the
difference.
