Nnenna Elendu-Ukeje (PDP-Abia) has
applauded The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and
voters over the peaceful and successful conduct of the parliamentary
election.
Ms Elendu-Ukeje, who is the chairman, House of Representatives
Committee on Donor Agencies, said in Abuja that she was impressed by
the orderly conduct of the elections. The lawmaker, who won her
re-election into Bende Federal Constituency of Abia with 18,339 votes
to beat her closest rival, Ben Kalu of PPA, who polled 10,141 votes,
said the election was free and fair. “I must confess, this is one
election that was very peaceful, orderly, free, fair and credible.
Nigerian voters should be commended too, for conducting themselves in
orderly manner” she said. Ms Elendu-Ukeje absolved INEC of the blame in
the postponement of the April 2 National Assembly poll, saying the
peaceful conduct of April 9, election justified the electoral body
actions. She said “I want to advise INEC to perfect its plans and
logistics in such a way that election materials and electoral officers
will get to polling stations on time and start voting on schedule to
avoid late counting of voting till night.” She urged Nigerian voters to
keep up their spirit of patriotism by coming out en masse to cast their
votes for the candidates of their choice in subsequent elections.
