A former governor of Bauchi State, Adamu Muazu,
lost his ward and local government to the opposition party in last
Saturday’s parliamentary elections. Even though his party, the People’s
Democratic Party, won the Bogoro/Dass/Tafawa Balewa federal
constituency in the House of Representatives, Mr Muazu failed to
deliver his local government to the PDP. According to election results
announced in Tafawa Balewa town last Sunday by the returning officer of
the elections, Auwalu Uba, the PDP lost to its rival, the Congress for
Progressive Change, in Mr Muazu’s local government area. The results
show that while the CPC polled 51,807 votes, the PDP got 35,112 votes.
Mr Muazu, who is the current chairman of the Nigerian Maritime
Administration and Safety Agency, voted at Satin Musa II polling unit,
Boto town in Kardam ‘B’ ward in Tafawa Balewa local government area of
the state during the election. Those results also showed that while the
PDP scored 1,585 votes in Kardam “B” ward, the All Nigeria People’s
Party got 4,617 votes.
Reacting to the results, Yusuf Garba-Alkaleri, a
close associate of Mr Muazu, said the former governor was seriously
campaigning for PDP in the state.
“In fact, during the National Assembly elections, he went to Tafawa
Balewa and Boto [his village] and told people to vote for PDP,” he said.
