Youth from Ogun
West senatorial district have threatened to deal with the two
candidates from the area contesting for the governorship seat in the
state, if their “stubbornness” over who becomes next governor costs the
region the coveted seat.
Tunji Olurin, of
the People’s Democratic Party {PDP}, and Gboyega Isiaka, of the
People’s Party of Nigeria {PPN}, hail from the same senatorial district.
The youth made this
known in a resolution after their meeting in Ilaro to assess the last
National Assembly election, which saw the two parties losing to the
Action Congress of Nigeria {ACN}, which governorship candidate is not
from the zone.
In view of this,
the group called on the two candidates to, as a matter of urgency,
reconcile and harmonise their ambitions in the general interest of
Yewa-Awori people’s quest for governorship.
They noted that
attempt by Messrs Olurin and Isiaka to contest the April 26
governorship election without reaching a consensus could jeopardise the
Ogun West people’s quest for governorship.
The youth, under
the banner of Ogun West Youth Summit, expressed fear that Messrs Olurin
and Isiaka’s lack of consensus may give room for the ACN governorship
candidate, Ibikunle Amosun, to coast home to victory during the
forthcoming governorship elections.
“We decided to
convoke the second youth summit to take a holistic look at the present
political trend with a view to finding a midway solution to the logjam
that had produced unappreciable results in the two parties that
represent the interest of Yewa-Awori people,” the body stated.
The group further
noted that going by the total votes garnered by People’s Democratic
Party {PDP} and the People’s Party of Nigeria {PPN} during the National
Assembly elections, the two parties could defeat the ACN at the
governorship poll if they teamed up.
“The question of
who should be our flag bearer among the two candidates should be
resolved pragmatically by the candidates themselves within 24 hours,”
they said in a communiqué.
In the communiqué,
jointly signed by Iziaq Kunle Salako, Dapo Oke, Femi Dokunmu, Kayode
Oladele, Raheem Ajayi, Kayode Oni, and Biodun Elegbede, the youth urged
both candidates to meet and agree between themselves who should
represent the zone.
They declared that whoever steps down from the contest would become
the hero of the zone’s 35 years political struggle and “his name shall
be written in gold.”
Yewa youth need to be more pragramatic in the issue of this nature, by compelling and vote of no confidence in the one look more doomy between the canditates espcially one from gov faction step down becos it seems as governor cover.
