Lille will virtually wrap up the French Ligue 1 title on Wednesday evening if they defeat Sochaux at the Stade Lille-Metropole.
Victory for Les Dogues would open up a six-point lead over second-placed Olympique Marseille with just two rounds of the league season left to play, meaning Lille would need just a draw from one of their last two matches to clinch the championship.
Rudi Garcias team will come into the match on an emotional high, having beaten PSG 1-0 on the weekend to win the Coupe de France for the first time since 1955. They are chasing their first league title since 1954.
A league and cup double looks on the cards for the Northerners, with Marseille defender Souleymane Diawara saying, It’s not over, mathematically, but I don’t think Lille will let it go.
Lille will once again look to their African strike pairing of Moussa Sow and Gervinho as well as midfielder Eden Hazard for inspiration, knowing that Sochaux will be no pushovers: they have gone seven games unbeaten and are looking to qualify for next seasons UEFA Europa League.
The only other game on Wednesday night sees Coupe de France runners-up PSG away to Bordeaux. The Parisians are looking to leapfrog Olympique Lyon in the standings and put themselves in a UEFA Champions League qualifying position.
