Nigeria Premier League (NPL)kings Enyimba thrashed title contenders Sunshine Stars 4-0 to continue their steady rise to the top of the table Wednesday.
Enyimba have thus climbed three spots to sixth place in the standings with 35 points from 22 matches, while Sunshine remain in second place on 42 points.
Striker Victor Barnabas opned scoring for his ninth goal of the campaign, before Samuel Tswanya double the host teams advantage in the first half.
The Peoples Elephant will score two more goals after the interval, through veteran forward David Tyvakase and Ifeanyi Edeh to inflict the heaviest defeat suffered by Sunshine this term.
Enyimba showed they are the team on form after they turned league leaders Dolphin 3-0 in Aba at the restart of the NPL a week ago.
Warri Wolves defeated relegation-threatened Crown FC 2-1 to turn the heat on second-placed Sunshine as they are now third on 38 points.
International striker Ekigho Ehiosun match winner in stoppage time was his eighth strike of the season.
Former youth international Gift Atiluwa scored first after 37 minutes before Crown drew level through Victor Nwandike in the 83rd minute.
In Abeokuta, 3SC again laboured to a 1-0 win over struggling Zamfara United courtesy of a Chima Akas goal three minutes from the break.
Akas shot was deflected into the net by Zamfara defender Agada Patrick.
After this drab clash, Zamfara coach, Abdulrahman Mohammed, questioned the match winner, while Fatai Amoo of 3SC admitted his team were again not at their best.
Amoo lamented that the teams three newly signed strikers were yet to blend with B international Gbolahan Salami.
Plateau United eased their relegation fears after they fought back from a goal down to beat 10-man Ocean Boys 3-1.
Kingsley Nwankwo stunned the home fans with the opening goal in the 38th minute, before Plateau substitute Tochukwu Esson restored parity with a 57th minute header off a Stanley Dimgba cross.
Esson then made it 2-1 on 78 minutes and team leading scorer George Akpabio increased the tally nine minutes from time.
Ocean Boys were reduced to 10 men when Bassey Nkereweh was sent off after a second booking.
Plateau have now leapfrogged both Zamfara and Crown to 17th place with 19 points from 22 matches.
Dolphin earned a heartwarming 2-2 draw at Enugu Rangers to stay top on 47 points.
Kaduna United halted the rise of Kwara United 3-0.
In other matches, Tornadoes continued their resurgence with a 3-1 home win over Heartland, Sharks pipped Lobi 1-0 and Gombe were 1-0 winners over bottom club JUTH in Bauchi.
Bukola babes will host Kano Pillars later Thursday in the final Week 22 match.
