1,562 NYSC Members Pass Out In C/River River

A total of 1562 Batch ‘B’ National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) members who satisfied the laid down prerequisites of NYSC passed out yesterday at the University of Calabar Pavilion while 21 have had their service extended and six others to repeat another twelve months due to unsatisfactory conduct.

Announcing this at the passing out ceremony, the outgoing coordinator of NYSC, Cross River State, Mr. Joshua Akinwumi Olowookere regretted the attitude of the corps members who had their tenure extended and others who were ordered to repeat due to behaviour not in accordance with NYSC statutes.

The coordinator who did not give details of the offences committed by the errant corps members however praised others who passed out, and said that apart from the active community development service and satisfactory primary assignment programmes, the corps members had become part of the Nigerian history by impressively contributing to the success of the free, fair and credible election.”

The state corps coordinator expressed gratitude to the state governor, Senator Liyel Imoke, for ensuring adequate security in the state which had invariably given the corps members a secure environment to carry out all national duties, including the election assignment, without fear of molestation.

To the corps members Mr. Olowookere said, “The scheme is proud of your demonstration of tenacity of purpose, patriotism and integrity during the year under review. Though you had your orientation camps in three different states, His Excellency ensured your welfare and transportation to Cross River State.”

Governor Imoke who was represented by the Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Barrister Fidelix Ugbo commended corps members who participated in the April general elections.

“Your unique role during the April polls will always be remembered in the anals of Nigeria’s history because you have contributed to a progressive Nigeria and have assured a future for your generation,” he said.

Governor Imoke urged the passing out corps members to be good ambassadors of the state and to remain patriotic citizens of the country.
