Former Minister of Defense and Edo South People Democratic Party (PDP) leader, retired General Godwin Abbe has described as untrue and baseless speculations that the state chapter of the PDP is enmeshed in a fresh crisis over the nomination of Mike Onolemenmen as a substantive minister from the state just as he denied reports of jostling to be made a minister by President Goodluck Jonathan.
Abbe who spoke to newsmen in Benin City, Edo State yesterday equally denied that the meeting which was called on the instance of Tony Anenih was boycotted by Edo South leaders of PDP over agitations that they were not consulted before presentation of a ministerial nominee from the state. He explained that the meeting with the national leader of the party ( Anenih) was well attended by a large numbers of Edo South PDP leaders, where the choice of Onolemenmen was discussed, adding that the only snag was that some members in the? South were not? “sufficiently informed as to who and who? were recommended for ministerial appointment”.
While supporting the choice of Onolemenmen he argued that Edo Central where? the new minster hails from had long been marginalized in the distribution of political offices in the state adding that it will only be fair for? the other senatorial district to support his nomination.
Stressing further the former Army Chief stated “the Governor Today is from Edo (North), SSG (Edo North), deputy governor (Edo south), Speaker (Edo South) and the Chief Judge of the state hail from the South.
“It is only fair to look at the senatorial district that have not heard the benefit of such exposure, since Oyegun ‘s era Edo South district has not lacked in any position.”
