Uche To Remain Falcons’ Coach

Despite failing to guide the Nigerian women’s senior national team beyond the preliminary stage of the ongoing Fifa Women’s World Cup in Germany, Eucharia Ngozi Uche has got the nod to remain in charge of the Super Falcons as head coach.

Chairman of the Nigeria Football Federation Technical Committee, Chris Green, disclosed that the Uche will not be removed as head coach of the women’s national team after failing to help the team reach the quarterfinals at the World Cup. The Super Falcons finished third in Group A behind Germany and France after losing their opening two games to both countries by similar score line of 0-1.

But the Nigerian women put up an improved display to defeat Canada by a lone goal through African Women’s Footballer of the Year, Perpetua Nkwocha.

Green rubbished claims that the coach was due to face the chop from the country’s football federation following the Super Falcons’ early exit from the Mundial.

“Uche is still the head coach of the Super Falcons. Nobody has talked about sacking her. Instead the federation will give her and her team support,” said Green.

The NFF executive committee member added that the federation is ready to assist the team in their forthcoming 2012 Olympic qualifying against their Cameroonian counterparts.
“The federation is focused on making sure that the team qualifies for the Olympic soccer event next year. And Uche will be in charge of that team,” he said.

Nigeria will play host to Cameroon in the first leg of the second round of the Olympic qualifying in the weekend of August 26 and 28.
