Some of them run charity organisations, others are peace ambassadors while others are into politics to change the nation. Jackie Appiah
The amiable Ghanaian actress is one of the most successful Nollywood actresses. She stepped into the limelight years back, when she was invited to debut in “The Things We Do For Love.”
Ever since, Appiah has risen to fame, receiving several awards and nominations, including the awards for Best Actress in a Leading Role (African Movie Academy Awards,AMAA, 2010) and Best Actress in a Supporting Role (African Movie Academy Awards, AMAA, 2007). She also received two nominations for Best Actress in a leading role and Best Upcoming Actress (African Movie Academy Awards, AMMA,2008).
Her face has graced many billboards and TV commercials all over Ghana, including a GSMF advert on protection against HIV/AIDS. She won the face of U.B. in a promotion she did for them on TV commercials and she is currently the face of IPMC, a deal which has seen her appear in their commercials and billboards.
Omotola Jalade-Ekeinde
The beautiful wife of a flight captain and a mother of four is one of the most successful stars in the industry. Besides, she is also a singer and is involved in extensive charity work.
“Omosexy”, as she is called by her fans, came into the industry with her debut ‘Mortal Inheritance’ in 1995. The film received good reviews and won her awards for her role and, ever since, she has not looked back.
Ekeinde has starred in many blockbuster movies and she is recognised as a role model by her fans as she has been able to manage her marriage alongside her career.
Tonto Dike
The controversial actress came into the industry in 2005 after emerging winner in
TV reality show ‘The Next Movie Star.’ Ever since, the sky has remained her limit. Also, earlier in January, she took part in a charity fashion show in Lagos.
However, Dike’s scandals and her fame are both experiencing a simultaneous geometric rise. Sexual display in her roles, particularly in the film ‘Dirty Secret,’ has led to criticisms from so many of her fans.
Emeka Ike
The talented actor ventured into acting in 1994 when white collar jobs were not forth- coming. Few years back, Ike was believed to be one of the most influential actors in Nigeria and his fans admire his charisma and sense of humour.
Ike was the celebrities who winner of the 2010 Gulder Ultimate Search for celebrities, but will most be remembered for his emotional involvement with singer Gift ‘Muma Gee’ Uwame which resulted in his spat with actress Chioma Chukwuka-Akpotha.
Rita Dominic Nwaturocha
Rita Dominic is one of few scandal-free actresses in the industry. She came into the limelight in 1998 when she starred in the movie “A Time To Kill”.
Featured in over 100 movies, she has been able to take her career to great heights, including winning the City People awards in 2004 as the Most Outstanding Actress.
Ini Edo-Ehigwina
The screen actress began her acting career in 2000 and since then, she has never looked back. Edo-Ehigwina has been able to acquire fame and fortune, having featured in over 50 movies.
The beautiful actress who tied the nuptial knot recently is also one of the ambassadors for tele-communications giant Globacom.
Majid Michel
The charming Ghanaian actor equally began his acting career years back when he featured in the movie, ‘The Things We Do For Love’.
In 2008, Majid starred in the film, ‘The Agony of Christ’ which received seven AMAA nominations. In 2009, he was nominated for AMMA’S Best Actor in a Lead Role category.
Nonso Diobi
Dynamic, and multi-talented, Diobi has many movies to his credit since his debut. He is also a Globacom ambassador.
