Former governor of Kogi State and the All Nigeria Peoples Party (ANPP) governorship candidate in the state, Prince Abubakar Audu, has defected to the Action Congress of Nigeria.
While formally declaring his defection to the ACN yesterday in Lokoja, the Kogi State capital, Audu declared that the ANPP’s ship had become ‘epileptic.’
He said: “Today begins the realisation of our dream that has been nurtured for many years. ANPP which I am a founding member is having epileptic problems taking a step forward and nine steps backward, from nine states to three now. I feel that is not good enough for our people.
“We want the future of our children and grandchildren to be secured. The ship of our former party is capsizing.
“This is why we decide to join the party that will take care of the future of our children and coming generations, a party that has the interest of the children, women and the society.
“From today the ANPP, CPC and Fresh Party have become one in ACN.” He added that the relationship between ANPP and ACN dated back to 2007 with the AC/ANPP political merger.
According to Audu, the achievements of ACN in states they govern and their performances in some other states during the last elections is a testimony to the dynamism, believe in unity of Nigeria and justice of the party.
Speaking during the occasion at the Lokoja Township Stadium, former governor of Lagos State and the leader of the Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN), Chief Bola Ahmed Tinubu, said his party would take over Kogi, Taraba and Benue states from the ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP)
According to Tinubu, ACN was ready to deliver the people of Kogi, Benue and Taraba states from the misrule of the PDP, which he termed ‘poverty development party’ and ‘people’s destruction party’.??
