Shell Lifts Force Majeure On Bonny Oil

Royal Dutch Shell yesterday said it had lifted a force majeure on Bonny Light crude oil loadings which was declared on June 13, 2011, due to leaks and fires on its Trans-Niger Pipeline.

A Shell spokesman in Nigeria confirmed that the force majeure, (which frees the company from contractual deliveries due to actions beyond its control), had been lifted but gave no further details.

The oil giant had in June attributed the leaks to the activities of saboteurs which they claimed used hacksaws to damage the pipelines.

Shell however confirmed to Reuters that the damaged pipelines had been repaired and added that production resumed at Bonny yesterday, even as the shutdown of the lines affected loading programmes at its Bonny export terminal.

Bonny is one of Nigeria’s top oil streams and is popular with refiners in Europe and the United States.
