Lagos Flood: Schools, Churches, Others On Fashola’s Demolition List

In furtherance of its zero tolerance for illegal structures in the state ,the Lagos State Governor, Mr. Babatunde Fashola, yesterday? directed that all illegal structures sitting on canals and drainage channel, which included churches, schools and many residential buildings, be demolished.

Fashola, who embarked on another round of inspection to ascertain the extent of damage of Sunday’s flood at the Lekki Ajah area of the state, communicated President Goodluck Jonathan’s message of sympathy to Lagosians. “The president is aware of what is happening and he has asked me to send his heartfelt commiseration and has promised to see what he can do to salvage the situation”.

The governor assured Lagosians that help is on the way for them from the Federal Government and expressed displeasure at the indiscriminate dumping of refuse in drainage and building structures without building government’s approval.

Areas the governor inspected around Lekki include Maiyegun village, drainage channel at Silverbird Comamunications Lekki, Alpha Beach at Ijoko Agba, Ajiran drainage channel, Igbo Efon community, Agunbi/Ajiran drainage channels and Olugbolo community.

The governor blamed the flooding on the structures that sprang up on Coastal Road, a stone throw from Silverbird Communications Headquarters, Ajah which temporarily shut down, and noted that the state government is also constructing a link road.
