SNG Raises Alarm Over Plot To Distabilise Nigeria

The Save Nigeria Group (SNG) has raised alarm over alleged plot by some politicians to distabilise the sociopolitical group and Nigeria as a country.

SNG in a press statement at the end of its stakeholders meeting on July 11, 2011 at the Rockview Hotels, Wuse 11, Abuja, alleged that the former Vice Presidential candidate of the Congress for Progressive Change (CPC), Pastor Tunde Bakare and the former FCT Minister, Mallam el-Rufai were working in consort with some persons within the group to distablise the SNG as well as the country.

This, the group maintained was not a hallmark of the SNG that took to the street to ensure the survival of the nation’s democratic process when anti-democratic cabals were bent on bringing the country down at the time of crises generated by late President Yar’Adua’s sickness.
Signed by the group’s National Coordinator, Benedict Ezeagu; and PRO, Francis Olabode, the statement further alleged that Pastor Bakare had been organising

It reads in part: “At the meeting, the attention of the Group was drawn to the clandestine meeting being organised by some disgruntled politicians of the

Congress for Progressive Change (CPC) led by Pastor Tunde Bakare, Yinka Odumakin and Nasir El- Rufai whom we learnt are conspiring to destabilise our organisation (SNG) and the country too.

“Thus, we hereby disassociate Save Nigeria Group and its members from the rumored clandestine meeting scheduled by these elements to be held in a hideout in Lagos on July 12, 2011.”

It further disclosed that, “The rumored meeting of Pastor Bakare and his CPC friends cannot definitely be at the instance of the Save Nigeria Group as is being misconceived since both Pastor Tunde Bakare and Yinka Odumakin were suspended by SNG in August, 2010 and have since then remained suspended, therefore, have no authority to speak or act for the organisation.

“Therefore, we wish to state here again that SNG is not a political party as it was formed as a non partisan pressure group whose main goals still remain campaign for good governance, justice, constitutionalism, constitutional reform, transparency and accountability in government.

While we call on our members across the country to remain calm while waiting for further directives, we also urge them to continue to defend the present democratic process that caused the masses a lot to put in place, the SNG stated.

The group warned members of the public, to be wary of these persons who have failed to show any sense of remorse or repentance for acts which earned them
suspension from the organisation.
