Bauchi State Governor Isa Yuguda has painted a gloomy and depressing picture of the activities of the dreadful Boko Haram, advising all stakeholders in the nation’s politics to handle the matter with utmost care in the ongoing efforts to tackle the problems.
“What is happening in our nation, especially in Borno State today is extremely very dangerous. Those behind it are criminals; they are killing in the name of Boko Haram. Boko Haram are Muslims; good Muslims do not kill”, the governor stated in an interactive session with journalists in Abuja.
The governor, who linked the criminal activities of those behind the bomb blasts in Borno State to poverty, said there must be deliberate moves on the part of all levels of government to take the people out of the streets and rehabilitate them.
He said both the state and the federal government were very much concerned about the frightening situation in Borno State on the grounds that President Goodluck Jonathan and the affected governors sworn to an oath to protect lives and properties of their citizens.
The governor said, “I weep for Borno State over the security situation. I know how painful it is when there is a complete breakdown of law and order in state. As I speak, there is mass exodus of people from the state. It should not have happened. Like Benin and Oyo empires, Borno is an empire of over 1,000 years of civilisation.”
“While I will not support criminality, I think there is urgent need for us to employ dialogue in resolving the issue. Security is a national issue and the security agencies are working very hard to tackle the issue. At our level, we meet regularly and pass information to the highest level on how best possible to resolve the matter.
Meanwhile, the All Nigeria Peoples Party (ANPP) has called on the federal government to embark on dialogue and not the use of arms in tackling the problem of Boko Haram just as the party expressed concerned over the likelihood of declaration of emergency in the state.
