The zonal co-ordinator of the Association of Nigerian Licenced Customs Agents (ANLCA), in the western zone, Mr. Ozo Chukwurah, has appealed to the Standards Organisation of Nigeria(SON) to save time at the ports while carrying out their regulatory functions.
chukwurah who was speaking with journalists in Lagos, claimed that SON did not have the equipment to test goods at the ports. He insisted that the current practice by SON to take the goods to their laboratory in Lekki was not in the interest of importers.
“SON does not have any equipment for testing those products at the ports and you cannot determine the quality of goods by merely looking at them. What they do is that they will take the sample of the good to their office in Lekki for testing and it takes weeks for the results to come out.
“This approach causes a lot of delays and time is money in our business” he remarked
The co-ordinator said SON should move some of its testing equipment closer to the port where tests could be carried out and the results released immediately.”
