The Ekiti State Governor, Kayode Fayemi, has denied that he sacked 5, 000 workers in its employ for alleged falsification of certificates, age and other irregularities.
Speaking to journalists at the weekend at the domestic wing of the Murtala Muhammed Airport Terminal 2 (MMA2), Lagos, Fayemi stated that the state was going through a transformation process in order to re-position and professionalise its civil service.
“We did not sack anybody; we have not sacked any worker. We have a transformation process in order to professionalise our public service and those who are affected by that know what to do in the process. If you are accused of having presented a fake certificate or a doctored age certificate, there are mechanisms and processes in place to address that. One thing that has to be made very clear is this, we must make up our minds whether we want to run a professional, accountable and transparent public service or we want to run a social service,” Fayemi said.
Fayemi who stated that the state had acceded to the workers’ demand however warned that government would no longer tolerate a situation in which 20 per cent of the workload in the state would be done by very few workers.?
