Federal Government’s desire to enhance the capacity of the public sector to deliver government programmes using ICT has received a boost as Galaxy Backbone has extended broadband services to Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs) within Abuja metropolis through its metro-wide fibre optic network.
?The build-out of Galaxy Backbone metro-wide fibre optic network covering over 350 km of the Federal Capital Territory has ensured that all arms of government with over 150 MDAs including the Presidency, the National Assembly, Federal Secretariat Complexes, the Supreme Court, the Court of Appeal, the Defence and Security community, Central Bank of Nigeria, News Agency of Nigeria and the Nigeria Television Authority are taken care of.
In a statement, the firm said that the facility would also covere the Nigerian Communications Commission, National Identity Management Commission, Federal Inland Revenue Service,
Federal Road Safety Commission, Budget Office, Ministry of Finance and others located within major districts of the metropolis which it said are enjoying improved services via the broadband.
Commenting on the facility, the chief technical officer of Galaxy Backbone, Mr Martin Ahach stated that the ICT firm has developed its technical and operational capacity to deliver on its mission.
“Presently, Galaxy has an extensive and integrated ICT infrastructure platform that combines VSAT, radio and fibre to ensure availability of multiple redundancies for its customers. The deployment of fibre optic cable to major MDAs has enhanced the quality of services deliverd to our customers. We are also providing other value-added services such as video phones to more than 50 MDAs on a unified numbering plan within the network, telepresence, video conferencing and VPNs,” he said.
In his contribution, Yusuf Kazaure, the group head, Customer Operations and Services reiterated Galaxy’s commitment to investment decisions and technology choices that would guarantee its long term viability, relevance and competitive advantage.
Kazaure said Galaxy would continue to deliver such benefits as cost saving through the economies of scale and prevention of the duplication of government investments in ICT; the provision of a standardised platform to ensure the sharing of government information amongst MDAs of the executive, non-ministerial agencies and other public institutions in order to promote collaboration and transparency; improve the capacity of the public sector to effectively adopt and use ICTs and drive digital inclusion of underserved communities.?
