Boko Haram: Shari’ah Council Demands Withdrawal Of Soldiers In Maiduguri

Apex pro-Islamic group in northern Nigeria, the Supreme Council for Shari’ah in Nigeria (SCSN) yesterday broke its silence on the lingering Boko Haram uprising, stating that the withdrawal of the Joint Task Force (JTF) is the only viable condition for the speedy return of peace in Maiduguri.

?
Addressing a press conference in Kaduna, its national president Dr. Ibrahim Datti Ahmad, said the withdrawal of the soldiers would pave way for the genuine overcoming of the insurgency.?
?
He further expressed the group’s satisfaction with the introduction of Islamic Banking. ?Saying that Muslims were happy that the bank had become a reality after much effort.
?
Ahmad, who decried the activities of the JTF, claimed that it was “using unbalanced force in its attempt to restore peace and order in Borno State. We call on the JTF to operate within the ambit of the law. We also call on the federal government to respect the wishes of the elders and leaders of Borno State and withdraw the JTF in order to pave way for the genuine resolution of the problem.”
?
On the controversy trailing Islamic banking, he said, “There is nothing illegal. If they [Christians] have a Christian bank they want to establish, they are free to bring it to the CBN and if they approve their case, a Christian bank will be opened.”
