Anambra State Association Women of Washington DC (ASAWW) has promised to extend its Scholarship Scheme to the less privileged students of Anambra State to enable them complete their dreams of higher education through funding of University education and Vocational training.
Making this promise during the Fundraiser Gala Night that the association organized at Sheraton hotel in the State of Maryland, USA on Saturday, the President of the group, Dr. Anthonia Uche Umeh noted that ASAWW would provide assistance to the less privileged children that have demonstrated academic excellence but has limited resources to achieve their dreams.
“We will provide them with ASAWW Scholarship Awards to complete their dreams of higher education through funding of University education and Vocational training.
It is, therefore, imperative that we who are fortunate should do our best to help as much as we can, and I strongly believe that all of you will answer our call” She added.
Mrs Uche Umeh further assured that all donations realised at the event would be judiciously and properly accounted for, stressing that the entire proceeds from the fundraiser Gala, as the group had done in the past will be used to help underprivileged youths acquire University Level Education, and Support Secondary Schools in Anambra State.
In her welcome address, Uche Umeh said that the issues of education of youth in Anambra State have been a source of major concern for all well wishers of Anambra State, noting that it is not a secret that the youths in Anambra State have in recent years opted out for trading instead of education.
“It does not go without saying that a nation with less educated people is a nation without a future” she noted.
Her words: “We have identified 16 Girls Secondary Schools in 16 towns, 10 Local Government Areas in the three Senatorial Zones in Anambra State that will benefit from our assistance through the generous support.
We have contacted these schools to find out the problems hindering the children in doing well in school such as infrastructures, technology, school library, books, Science Laboratories, water system and have collected a long list of what they desperately need to do well.”
According to her: “In other to continue to provide these beneficial services to our communities and expand to other projects, our women deliberated extensively on recent problems facing our motherland Nigeria and we concluded that we can play a prominent role in areas relating to Youths in our home State, Anambra.
Subsequently, we chose to assist in improving the welfare of our youth by empowering them with education”
