The National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW) has urged both the private and public sectors to work together to achieve a common goal in the transport sector.
Its President, Alhaji Najeem Yasin, made the call yesterday in Abuja at the handing over of the union’s headquarters building by a construction company, Haja Consult.
Yasin lauded NURTW members for their cooperation and noted that without such support, the efforts of the pioneer leaders would have been in vain.
He pledged that the union could grow in an atmosphere devoid of rancour and disunity, and urged other unions to emulate the cooperation exhibited by the NURTW members.
The union president condemned the rate at which projects were abandoned across the country and attributed the trend to misappropriation of funds.
He suggested that those in charge of such projects should be made to account for them.
According to him, the three tiers of government, corporate organisations and every Nigerian should ensure that such projects in their domain were duly completed.
The president commended the contractor for completing the project on schedule.
Earlier, the Chairman of the company, Mr Usman Balahad, lauded the current leaders of the union and said that the successful completion of the building was due to their commitment and unity.
The project was started in December 1996. (NAN)?
