The war of words over President Goodluck Jonathan’s transformation agenda took a different turn yesterday, as the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), took a swipe at the Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN), describing its advice on the agenda as unsolicited.
ACN national publicity secretary, Lai Mohammed, had in a press statement last Sunday criticised the number of ministers in the federal cabinet and claimed that President Jonathan would not achieve his transformation agenda with the huge amount that would be required to keep the cabinet and reeled out measures the president must take to succeed.
PDP’s national publicity secretary, Prof. Rufai Ahmed Alkali, while reacting to the call, said the ACN couldn’t suddenly arrogate to itself the powers to dictate to President Jonathan the content and direction of his transformation agenda after losing the general elections.
Alkali declared that President Jonathan had already committed himself into putting the country in its rightful place in the comity of nations, as witnessed by the flurry of economic and diplomatic activities in the past weeks and advised ACN not to interfere.
“Our attention has been drawn to the ranting of the Action Congress of Nigeria over the recent appointment of federal ministers by President Goodluck Jonathan. We find it rather funny that the ACN at this point in time, having lost out during the last general election, is now trying to dictate to President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan the content and direction of his policies.
“It is a well known fact that the president has committed himself to transforming Nigeria as a leading member in the international system. If ACN has anything to contribute towards the transformation agenda of Mr. President they are welcome, but on no account should they attempt to dictate to the president on how he plans to implement his transformation agenda,” the PDP spokesman said. ?
