Babatunde Ogunjobi and Abdulgafar Oluwarinu Yusuf have been ordered by an Osogbo Magistrate court to pay N500, 000 as fine for stealing the mobile phone of Osun State governor, Mr. Ruaf Aregbesola.
Delivering his ruling on the case, the presiding magistrate, Olusola Aluko, described the action of the two offenders as disrespectful to the personality of the state governor.
Ogunjobi and Yusuf were first arraigned before the court, on Monday June 20, 2011, a five-count charge of conspiracy to steal a Sony Ericson mobile telephone belonging to Mr. Aregbesola on Saturday November 27, 2011 at about 4.30am at the Technical College playing ground, Osogbo, where the governor took the oath of office.
The offenders were also alleged to have used the same handset to defraud Owa Obokun of Ijasa Land, Oba Adekunle Aromolaran of N500,000.
As part of their penalties for the offence committed by the accused persons, they were told by Magistrate Aluko to produce two sureties who must be civil servants resident within the district.?
