Imo State Governor, Owelle Rochas Okorocha has appealed to the management of Federal Polytechnic Nekede, Owerri, to ensure that the institution re-opened without further delay.
Okorocha who made the appeal when the governing council of the institution paid him a courtesy visit in government house, promised to visit the institution to ascertain the level of destruction of properties by students who embarked on a violent protest over alleged fees’ hike.
He however, promised the contribution of the state government in the rebuilding process.
The governor also canvassed for regular interaction between management of tertiary institutions and students to bridge communication gaps that often lead to such violent protests.
Okorocha further maintained that efforts would be intensified to unravel the perpetrators of such act and added that violence at this critical stage could not be a means of solving problems.
Earlier, the leader of the delegation and chairman governing council of the institution, Dr (Mrs.) Josephine Akhigbe assured the governor of the loyalty of the management of the institution.
She promised that the Governing council would always key into the visions of governor Okorocha and contribute in any capacity deemed necessary in executing the rescue programmes of his administration.
