Arik, West/Central Africa’s largest commercial and Africa’s fastest growing airline, has been named the official airline for the August 9, 2011 international friendly match between the two West African soccer giants, the Super Eagles of Nigeria and the Black Stars of Ghana.
The match will be played at Watford Football Club – Vicarage Road, Watford, London, UK.
As the official airline sponsor of the epic friendly, Arik will be flying to London, a delegation of the Nigerian Football Federation. As a bonus goal for the encounter, there will be a lucky draw for two Arik Business Class tickets from London to Lagos, Abuja or Accra.
This is not the first time Arik will be involved in a high profile sporting event. The airline has become part of the Nigerian national football teams. The airline carried the Super Eagles to Durban last year for the 2010 World Cup in South Africa. The Super Falcons and Flying Eagles also flew Arik to the African Women Championship and African Youth Championship in South Africa in 2010 and 2011 respectively.
Speaking on Arik’s involvement in the Nigeria v Ghana friendly, the airline’s Managing Director, Mr. Chris Ndulue said: “There is a huge Nigerian and Ghanaian community in the UK who are keen on this game and we will make things easy for them to be able to bring their friends and families to the game.
Even though the game will be played in England, soccer fans in Nigeria and Ghana are also interested in going to watch the match and Arik’s daily Lagos-London Heathrow and five times weekly Abuja-London Heathrow flights, with convenient connections from Accra and other parts of Nigeria will ensure they get the opportunity to travel to watch the game.”
