The Ewi of Ado-Ekiti, Oba Adeyemo Adejugbe, has enjoined governments at all levels to commit more resources to agriculture to provide food security and employment opportunities for youths in thecountry.
Adejugbe who made the call at the weekend during the 2011 Udiroko Festival described agriculture as a catalyst for industrialisation in the country.
While expressing dismay at the way agriculture has suffered neglect in the country, Adejugbe called on his subjects to rise in unison and fight socio-economic problems facing their hometown.
According to him, Ado-Ekiti can only witness more development if its people join hands together to lift their community.
Oba Adejugbe commended the Fayemi-led administration for tackling some of the problems facing the people of the state, saying the governor has done well in areas like reduction of tuition fees in tertiary institutions, free medical care, and rehabilitation of Ado-Ekiti township roads and distribution of free laptops to secondary school students.
On his part, Governor Fayemi commended indigenes of Ado-Ekiti for the role they plaiyed in reclaiming his mandate and their support for his administration since he assumed office in October last year.
He assured of his administration’s resolve to make Ado-Ekiti a befitting state capital through the Urban Renewal Project, just as he sought for more understanding from the people on the ongoing demolition of unregistered structures.
The Udiroko Festival, which is celebrated annually, marks the first day in the traditional calendar of the Ado-Ekiti Kingdom, even as it attracts sons and daughters of the community from within and outside the country.
